CHIPOTLE SALSA
A few months back my husband and I decided to go to Peach
Days in Brigham City Utah. It’s not to incredibly far from us and we thought it
would be fun to just get out and do something different. We brought some money
so we could test out some of the food trucks but didn’t really plan on buying
anything else. Towards the end of our night we came across a vendor selling dip
and salsa mixes. He had them all prepared and set out on the table for people
to dry. Ok so here is the thing my husband is a salsa fanatic. When we go to
our favorite Mexican Restaurant he fills up on chips and salsa and takes his
burrito home to eat the next day. The ironic thing is that he dislikes peppers,
onions and tomatoes. I know it doesn’t make sense to me either but when they
are perfectly blended together he is in love as long as it’s not chunky. I happen to love chip dip or dips for
potatoes so we were both in heaven. He careful tasted each salsa mix to pick
the perfect blend for him and I think I spent 20 minutes tasting each dip over
and over again to decide which would be coming home with me. We had our choices decided and brought them
home. So we have pretty much fallen in love with the salsa. I think its mainly
because we can customize it ourselves and make it just how we like it. We are
already in need of buying a new salsa mix and they are pretty big bags.
So here is the info, you can shop right online and decide
what sounds good.
It’s called the Spice Exchange. www.shopspiceexchange.com . The
website is really cute and very easy to navigate. We bought the Chipotle salsa mix but I don’t
see it on there, my husband will be sad about that but maybe it’s comes and
goes.
All of the dips were really good. I bought five to try and
like them for different reasons and thought they would work well with
different things. The Green Chili Dip
was good with tortilla chips but I used it to make enchiladas and it was
scrumptious. The Cheesy Smokey Bacon Dip
and the Horseradish Bacon Dip are awesome with roasted potatoes or even to dip French
fries in. Chip wise I think potato are the way to go. Any of the ones with dill were really good but I’m a huge dill fan. I
think they would be great with a veggie tray or smeared on a wrap. My favorite
was the Chili Con Queso. It was an all-around great chip dip and that’s what I
was originally looking for. I mixed all of mine with sour cream but the
instructions tell you you can use mayonnaise as well. However when I used the Green
Chili mix for my enchiladas I used cream cheese so right there you know it was
delicious.
The salsa mixes can be made a few different ways and the
instructions tell you what are some options. This is how we make ours. In a
food processor or blender we add a 14oz can of tomato sauce and a 14 oz can of
salsa ready tomatoes (you could also use a can of rotel). We add 5 tablespoons
of the mix and a dash of salt. We blend it until its smooth and that’s all
there is to it. (Sometimes I add a squirt of lime juice just for extra flavor) Dip
away with your favorite tortilla chip or put on a taco, burrito etc.
I really recommend you give them a try. Plus it’s always
nice to support a small business.
